Gulf Coast Diplomacy supports person-to-person exchange as a way to encourage dialogue, mutual understanding, and professional engagement across borders. International exchanges provide opportunities for individuals and communities to learn from one another through direct experience and conversation.
As a longtime host organization for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), Gulf Coast Diplomacy works within a national network of community-based partners that support educational and professional exchange. IVLP has a long history of bipartisan support and is designed to foster dialogue and build understanding between international visitors and American communities.
These exchanges also contribute to our local community. They generate economic activity, create professional and cultural connections, and offer residents opportunities to share their expertise and perspectives. By welcoming international visitors, communities gain insight into global contexts while presenting an authentic picture of life in the United States.
Gulf Coast Diplomacy also offers youth-focused educational programming that introduces students to civic learning, historical context, and global perspectives through structured, nonpartisan activities. Sessions may include simulations, role-playing exercises, and facilitated discussions designed to support learning, reflection, and respectful dialogue. Through these experiences, students build an understanding of U.S. history, civic institutions, and community life in an educational setting.

I found out and I am convinced that IVLP does an enormous job in promoting openness and mutual understanding around the world. The best way to challenge prejudices or to make people understand others is when they have a chance to meet or to cooperate overreaching the same goal.

Being hosted by an amazing couple for two weeks gave me a second family that I’ll forever keep in my heart and maintaining contact with them is something that still lightens up my days.
