Youth Diplomats: Building Civic and Global Awareness in Northwest Florida

Youth Diplomats is a locally rooted program that equips high school students in Northwest Florida with the skills and confidence to engage with the world through education and dialogue. Each month, 34 students are invited to gather for interactive, youth-driven sessions that spark curiosity, leadership, and intercultural understanding. Many participants return year after year, creating a strong community of experienced members and enthusiastic newcomers.

The program contributes to Northwest Florida by introducing students to civic learning, community engagement, and leadership concepts through educational programming. Through projects, workshops, and conversations with international visitors, students build awareness of workplace skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. They apply these skills locally through community service initiatives like Faces of Service, strengthening connections and supporting positive community development.

Sessions are highly interactive, featuring team-building games, diplomatic simulations, and professional development activities that encourage students to share perspectives and learn collaboratively. Recent activities reflect the group’s dynamic interests and global focus, including:

• Intercultural Dialogue with visiting leaders from Moldova
• Country Presentations on Japan, India, and Canada
• Current Events Roundtable: Educational discussion on emerging technologies and global affairs
• Diplomatic Simulation in partnership with the 4-H Youth Center
• Dessert Diplomacy Trivia: Cultural Do’s and Taboos
• Guest Speaker Session: My Peace Corps Story with a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer

The 10th cohort launches in summer 2026, with applications opening in March and selections finalized in May. Programming begins in June with the eighth annual Camp Global, followed by monthly meetings and additional pop-up opportunities. Throughout the year, students participate in educational exchanges and local service initiatives.
