IVLP Shadowing Experience

The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) shadowing experience was by far the most meaningful activity I participated in this summer. It was a way to connect with foreign professionals in various fields, and it allowed for in-depth conversations about their experiences in their countries and the circumstances they are in. A wide variety of participants from the Middle East, including Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and many more, participated, further broadening the cultural variety. The remarkable differences in their backgrounds fostered a broad spectrum of discussions, encompassing topics such as societal frameworks, governance structures, and regional challenges, each uniquely shaped by their national contexts.

Throughout the two days I participated, the visitors and I had site visits and meetings in various locations such as Pensacola City Hall, the HERicane Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, etc. While traveling with the participants, I noticed two common themes among them: they were all very polite and treated everyone with utmost respect. They would meet everyone with friendly smiles, even when the occasion didn’t call for it, illustrating their true character.

The IVLP experience was an eye-opening experience for me, showing just how connected the world is. Talking with the visitors, I was inspired by how much they do for their communities. It pushed me to step up and keep our community strong. Their grit and drive to make a difference left a big impression, and I’m excited to carry that energy into my future projects. The program showed me how diplomacy can bring people together to tackle shared challenges. Overall, shadowing these global leaders was an incredible chance to learn, connect, and contribute to something meaningful. I’m so grateful for it and can’t wait to put what I’ve learned into action. Let me know if you need more details!

The program also illuminated the role of diplomacy in building mutual understanding and tackling shared challenges, showing how meaningful exchanges can bridge divides. In short, shadowing these global leaders was an extraordinary opportunity to learn, connect, and grow. I’m immensely grateful for this experience and excited to apply its lessons moving forward.
