On 14th of November we had the Youth Diplomat meeting. As a starter, we played a Kahoot on global current events. It was a great ice-breaker and we all gained more knowledge on current global affairs.
We had the pleasure of having a guest speaker, Jennifer Strauss, speak to us about her experiences in the 1980s teaching in Togo as volunteer with the Peace Corps. The Leadership Committee facilitated a discussion with her. There we learned about her biggest cultural shocks, what a day in her life looked like in Togo, the preparation for Togo, why she picked Peace Corps, her greatest takeaways and so much more. It was a delightful discussion and we all loved hearing her stories!
Afterwards, we had a workshop on resume writing and interview skills. Our great trainer, Karen Shatin, shared with us brilliant tips to help with our resumes! The Youth Diplomats were equipped with new skills and expertise on those topics, and she explained to us how crucial the writing of a resume is for our future careers. Resumes showcase all of our education, accomplishments, experiences, additional skills, and interests. We focused on the purpose of a resume & on important things to include. As for the interview section, we concentrated on types of interviews, the preparation, behavioral interviewing, things to avoid, etc.
The session ended with feedback using our favorite evaluation tool: Two Roses and One Thorn.
It was a fabulous meeting, filled with interactive and insightful conversation and discussions!
